Printing and Framing FAQ

Answers to common questions about choosing artwork, printing, canvas and framing.

How do I choose a suitable picture?

Start with the subject and atmosphere of the work, then consider the space where it will hang. Choose a picture you enjoy looking at, without too much visual clutter, that can remain part of your home over time.

What size should I order?

Consider the wall's shape and size and the viewing distance. Leave comfortable space around the picture rather than overcrowding the wall.

What can I customise on the website?

You can choose an artwork, a size with suitable proportions, a printing material and framing options to create a piece suited to your needs.

Which materials do you print on?

Our printing materials include canvas, parchment, imitation parchment, glass, fine art paper and photographic paper.

Does enlarging a print reduce its quality?

Our prints are based on original works scanned in the studio at high quality, with attention to sharpness and colours faithful to the original.

What is a mount or passe-partout?

It is an inner border made from quality board, placed between the picture and the outer frame. It adds depth, draws attention to the picture and enhances the framing.

Why is there no glass or mount with stretched canvas?

Stretched canvas is designed to hang directly without glass. A mount is mainly used for photographs, posters and pictures framed behind glass.

What is your maximum canvas print size?

Hidur Gallery offers canvas printing up to 100 × 300 cm.

When should I choose a gallery wrap?

A gallery wrap suits canvas without an outer frame when you want the sides to form part of the image. The picture continues around the sides of the wooden stretcher.

What is the difference between glossy and matt glass?

Ordinary glossy glass can reflect bright light or sunlight. Matt glass reduces reflections for a quieter, cleaner appearance.

What is double-glass framing?

The picture sits between two sheets of glass, creating a distinctive modern look. This can be particularly useful for parchment and works with ripples or creases, helping to flatten and display them.
